I can’t help it! The stores, the commercials…the Christmas season is upon us! Since being married, Christmas for Jesse and I has never been very “traditional,” especially while we lived overseas. Trying to make a tropical country in Asia feel festive and Christmas-y can be a challenge. Thank goodness for the malls in our city that decorated for Christmas because that was as close to a winter wonderland as we got!
Spending our first Christmas back in the States last year was a little… overwhelming. It may sound silly, but I guess just being away from the holiday chaos for several years really made a difference.
Wherever we end up each Christmas, I want our family to have fun traditions that will make the best memories every year! We want to incorporate traditions from both of our families, and make new ones too!
Here’s just a few things on our Christmas to-do list:
– Decorate the Christmas tree together
– Drive around looking at Christmas lights
– Pack a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child
– Have a Christmas movie marathon
– Go to a Christmas Eve church service
Last year, I also wanted to make a little DIY for all of our families’ Christmas gifts. I created some DIY Christmas wrapping paper by using plain brown paper and then made each gift unique with different decorations on top and DIY photo name tags. It was so much fun and they turned out really cute too!
This year I want to do some fun DIYs again and once I saw the Scotch® Expressions Tapes, I knew they would be perfect for DIYs! I got my inspiration for my holiday DIY from tassel garlands. I think they are the cutest party decorations and can be made with such pretty colors! So I decided to make a smaller version to place on top of holiday gifts (or any presents throughout the year) to add a festive touch. To make the mini tassels, I used the Scotch® Expressions Tapes. They come in so many cute colors and patterns and can be used in so many different ways! The Scotch® Create items (double-sided tape, spray adhesives, etc.) come in handy as well! And they are both conveniently found at Walmart…
For my DIY I started with..
– Scotch® Expressions Tapes in some fun glitter and metallic colors!
– Scotch® Create Double-Sided Tape
– Christmas Gift Tags
– Wrapping Paper
To make the mini tassels, I cut strips of the Scotch® Expressions Tape about 3 ½ inches long and then folded them in half, sticky side in.
Then I gathered and piled up about 20 strips of one color and folded them over a piece of twine. I took a new piece of the Scotch® tape and wrapped it around the top to secure it in place. You can repeat this step for each color to make more tassels.
Next, I cut up into each strip to make smaller pieces and more strips for the fringe. I separated each small strip to make it fuller, and that was it! The Scotch® Create double-sided tape came in handy to wrap my gifts, and also to tape the tassels to the gifts! I think the tassels make such a fun topper for presents!
Do you have any Christmas traditions that your family makes sure to do every year? If DIYs are on your list make sure to check out all of the fun items from Scotch® this year! I would love to hear all about your DIY ideas for the holidays and your family Christmas traditions too! xo.
