Today I wanted to share with you a basic makeup look using all drugstore products – meaning, all of these items can be found at places like Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and of course Amazon. They are all very affordable – all of the items, except one, are under $10!
Let me get a few things out of the way. First off, you may be thinking as you read this.. there’s no way this is an “easy” makeup look, there’s too many steps and a heck of a lot of products. As always, adjust it to your liking and incorporate the items and steps that you choose. I skipped several steps I usually do (will touch on that later) and kept the “techniques” very basic. This is a simple makeup look I did just a few days ago with these exact products and thought I would share a little tutorial with you today. From this post, I hope you will find a new product to try out or maybe even learn something new! And remember, there really are no rules in makeup! You do YOU!
This look is very basic and can be taken from a simple daytime look to a more amped up nighttime look with just a few additional steps. The products I used are ones that I feel are essential, that work well together, and help your makeup last all day! Below is a photo of my products- the exact items that I used. PLUS, each individual product in the following photo is linked, which means you can literally click on an item in the picture and it will take you to a website where the item is available!
So here’s the breakdown of how I did this simple look. Let’s take the makeup routine in phases.
O N E : the base
I started with a moisturizer and then a primer, which are both very important! Without laying a good base, the other layers of makeup will never blend out smoothly! [TIP:] Find a primer that caters to whatever your skin needs are! I prefer a more mattifying primer for my oily skin. I applied foundation next. Whether it is a higher-end or drugstore foundation, the important thing is to make sure to find not only your correct color, but also the correct undertone! Foundations usually have a range of neural, warm, and cool undertone shades to choose from. This makes all the difference. My newest favorite durgstore foundation is this one from Wet N Wild. It’s a great option for right around $5! [TIP:] My preferred method of applying foundation is with a damp beauty sponge.
Concealer is applied next and for this look I used this one and applied it under my eyes. Blending in concealer with a damp sponge works great as well! [TIP:] Your concealer for under your eyes should be 1 to 2 shades lighter than your foundation. After blending in the concealer (and using it to prime my eyelids as well), I set everything with a translucent powder. I always set my entire face, but you can also choose to only set certain areas like your t-zone, which includes your undereyes, middle of the forehead, nose, and chin. This step is crucial for me and blends everything so beautifully together!
T W O : face + eyebrows
For this basic look, I took this brow product and lightly filled in and shaped my brows. This step really helps shape your face! Another way to shape and carve out your face is with shading and contouring, but for this look I skipped that and simply used a little bronzer on my face. Bronzing powder around the perimeter of the face, and the area right under your cheeks brings nice warmth and natural coloring. This bronzer/blush duo that I used includes a natural pink blush that I very lightly dusted over my cheeks. It’s a quick step that brings a natural flush to the face. You can choose to skip this next step, but I’m always up for a good highlighter! The one I used is so natural and pretty. I applied it to the tops of the cheek bones, down the bridge of my nose, and in the inner corner of the eyes for a beautiful glow!
T H R E E : eyes
For this look, I didn’t use a bunch of shadows or do anything fancy at all! I kept it quick and simple! For this look, and most eye looks I do, I always add a neutral brown shade to the crease of my eyelid! To keep it simple, I just used a little bit of the bronzer that I used above and applied that in the crease to give depth and definition to the eye. [TIP:] Using a product for multiple uses saves time and money!
Next I swept this pretty liquid eyeshadow across my entire lid. I applied it with the wand and blended it in with my finger. It is such a pretty, rose gold shimmer shade that takes little effort! I went back into the crease with a little more bronzer to blend it out one more time and that was it. I opted out of eyeliner today and took a little bit of the bronzer shade on a tiny brush and smudged it in my bottom lash line instead of a dark liner. A couple coats of mascara, and that did it for my eyes!
F O U R : lips
I chose not to line the lips, combine colors, or even top with a gloss (which I usually do!). For this look I chose to use this cream liquid lipstick in the shade sandstorm. It applies so smoothly and lasts a very long time on your lips!
F I V E : set
You don’t want to go through all this work for it not to last! Setting with a mist helps lock in your makeup and prolong the wear time. I just started using this one and I give it a thumbs up! A couple sprays over your entire face will do the trick!
So there’s a little tutorial on how I created this makeup look. If you want to take this into a more dramatic look for nighttime, add items such as contouring powder, liquid eyeliner, false lashes, and a lip gloss. If you have any questions about any of the products or anything in general, let me know! Thanks for stopping by today! xo.
