Hey friends! As I mentioned last week on Insta stories, I wanted to write a post with a little life update. Over the last few years I haven’t shared a ton of personal life details… but I wanted to fill you in on some of those details today!
So let’s back up a bit…for those of you who are new around here, my husband, Jesse, and I moved to Thailand a week after we got married in 2012 to do mission work. (Yes we were young – me, 20, him, 23, and crazy in love. People thought we were just crazy 😉 ) We lived in Thailand and traveled throughout Southeast Asia for two years. After those two years some doors began to close as others were opening. We prayerfully decided to move back stateside for Jesse to attend grad school in order to pursue Chaplaincy in the United States Navy. For those of you not as familiar with what a Chaplain is (because I wasn’t either), a Chaplain in the Navy, in essence, serves as a pastor and counselor to military personnel and their families. Navy Chaplains serve with the Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard. Jesse’s role as a religious service member within this capacity means that while he may not be on the front lines, he is still 100% military having a rank, doing all of the same physical training, etc. One of our very favorite things to do is travel so this will allow us to do just that, while experiencing new cultures, ministering to those around us, and doing life alongside other military families. Jesse grew up in a military family so this was a natural fit for him!
We arrived back in the States in July of 2014 and Jesse began grad school a month later. We moved to the smack dab middle of Illinois and started this new chapter in our lives! We lived in Bloomington for about a year until Jesse got hired as a pastor at a church in our current town, about two hours away from where we were living. We moved to western Illinois just over two years ago to a small farming community. To be honest, these last two years haven’t been easy. Moving to a super small town where everyone knows everyone can have its challenges. We were the outsiders. Continuing to live so far away from our families also wasn’t easy.
Although it’s been a challenging two years, we are still so thankful! We have learned so much through living here, being a part of our church, and ministering to the community. We are also grateful for the amount of time we have had to spend together. I have had the chance to dive headfirst into blogging while also helping Jesse at the church. He’s been working so diligently on being a full-time pastor and full-time student over the last two years and has done a great job at it!
I have absolutely adored the amount of time we’ve had together. We literally do everything together! Our favorite spot in town is this little coffee shop that we are sitting outside of in the photos. I haven’t taken this time for granted that’s for sure.. especially thinking into the future when we will be apart, whether it be for boot camp or in the event that he gets deployed. But all of this to say.. we are moving into a new chapter! Jesse will be graduating next month and we will be heading back to the east coast to spend time together and with our families before he heads to boot camp. I am moving in two weeks and Jesse will move shortly after. It’s sooo crazy to think we finally made it to this point (something we have been working towards for over three years). It’s exciting, it’s kinda scary, it’s all the feels.
Even through all of the tough stuff, we are grateful for the story God is writing for us and this new avenue where we will get to serve God together! Jesse officially swore into the Navy one year ago and will be going active duty after the New Year. We are so excited for this new adventure (especially psyched that we will likely get to live by the ocean!).
The packing has begun and the countdown is on. Thank you for reading this little life update and coming along for the ride.
