In light of the New Year, I wanted to do something a little bit different and reflect on 2017 and look ahead to the new year.
2017 was a year of mini trips.
We knew the year would fly by and it certainly did! We fit in several trips to visit family- one in the beginning of the year, one in May, and one in the fall. Living in the midwest wasn’t easy and wasn’t always “fun,” but one of our favorite things to do was take little day or overnight trips to Chicago and St. Louis. This year we went to St. Louis for shopping, for concerts, and to visit the zoo. We spent our vacation in North Carolina with family and friends and also took a quick trip to Nashville for a friend’s wedding in October.
There were two highlights from 2017 that make the top of my list.
My first highlight was when the hubby and I led a group from our church on a mission trip to Nicaragua (see this post). Central America was so much different than I expected! I thought that by living in Asia for a few years I would have a good grasp on what Nicaragua would be like, but it was a world of difference. I loved how the culture was so vibrant and exciting! The bright colors and music that filled the country were beautiful and the outreach and ministry we were able to do in a 10-day period was humbling. The other highlight from the year was getting to attend the VIP Bed Head event in Chicago. This was my first real event (besides the e.l.f. Beautyscape trip) that I had the chance of attending as an influencer/blogger and it was a dream! I got to take my mom as my guest and we had a blast getting our hair and nails done at the event, exploring the city, and chowing down on pizza!
2017 went out with a bang.
Our time in Illinois came to an end and we said goodbye to the church Jesse was pastoring at and to our friends in the community. Jesse finished grad school and we both officially moved to Pennsylvania to live with family in December. We celebrated Christmas with my family and New Year’s with both of our families together! We had a party to celebrate Jesse’s graduation and a send off as he will be leaving for the first phase of his training for the Navy this weekend. (He’s packing as I type!)
I wouldn’t classify 2017 as glamorous, but as a transitional year.
It was a busy year of travels, packing up our life, and moving on to something that we’ve been working towards since 2014. Grad school – check. Pastoring a church – check. We have learned so many lessons this year and God has taught us so much. He is with us through this transition phase and we can’t wait to see where He leads us in 2018!
Looking forward to 2018.
2018 is going to be a year of “new.” Lots of new experiences and adventures are ahead. Jesse will be attending all of the phases of his training for the U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps over the next few months. It’s going to be a new experience for both of us as he travels back and forth between classes and officer bootcamp. During that time, we will also find out where our first duty station will be. We are dying to find out where our Navy career will begin for us! We can only dream where we will be living and what this new chapter will look like for us!
2018 blogging goals.
I am so happy that I decided to start this blog a few years ago. Although sometimes I feel like I am growing at a snail’s pace, this blog will always be a place where I not only share my love for fashion and beauty, but also peeks into our life. Besides… that’s the meaning behind the name. This blog is all about our latest happenings and my latest style & beauty loves; our current joys and moments of bliss. But of course, I also wanted it to be about our Navy life that will be lived by the sea.
Last year for my blogging goals, all I really had in mind was a follower number. Although this can be something good to work towards, I want to focus on building a community. I want this blog and my other social accounts to be a place where we can all come together, share tips and helpful ideas, encourage each other, and engage authentically. Throughout these next few months, make sure you are following along not only on here, but on my Instagram as well because that is where you will see more daily updates and photos, and a place we can all “hang out” throughout the week. Posts will on the blog will most likely be a once-a-week occurrence showcasing style and beauty topics. What do you guys like seeing? What posts are most helpful? Are you interested in affordable outfit posts or makeup posts? I will be incorporating more “life” posts too, so if you would be interested in a Q+A post about us, the Navy, and more- let me know!
I couldn’t do what I do here without all of you so THANK YOU! Every blog visit, comment, and engagement on Instagram is so helpful! Thanks for coming along for the ride!
Here’s to 2018! xo.
